Located across from Town Hall on the corner of Main Street and Great Neck Road North, the Mashpee Community Park and Veterans Garden is a charming corner of Mashpee, situated in the center of our historic district. Now also home of the Mashpee Archives Building and the relocated Mashpee One Room Schoolhouse, dated 1831, the park is a short walk to many other historic sites and community assets:
- “Attaquin House” (i.e., the Mashpee parsonage, built in 1849)
- Attaquin Park and Beach
- Attaquin Burial Ground
- Mashpee Community Garden, located on the old Hotel Attaquin site
- Mashpee Wampanoag Museum
- Mashpee River Herring Run and Mill Pond
- One of Mashpee’s Pollinator Gardens
Although the park, formerly known as Collins Lot, was first created in 2001, it was not until after the May 2015 opening of the newly redesigned Mashpee Community Park and Veterans Garden that it was fully utilized and became a focal point for many town activities and celebrations. Year-round activities within the park include ceremonies to honor veterans on both Memorial Day and Veterans’ Day, open air concerts in the gazebo, and the Holiday Tree Lighting Ceremony.
The Veterans Garden in an important part of the Community Park. Here you will find a circle of honor stones to memorialize Mashpee’s veterans who lost their lives in service to our country, starting as far back as the Revolutionary War. Several additional monuments are planned for the future to honor all Mashpee veterans who have served. As many veterans over the years have been members of the Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe, both the Massachusetts state flag and the flag of the Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe fly as a tribute to these heroes.
With plenty of parking, pathways, park benches, trees, green grass, history, and commemoration, this is a lovely part of Mashpee to explore and enjoy.
