President | Irene Checkovich | Resident of Mashpee since 1994. Retired educational administrator with a strong interest in environmental issues including recycling, composting, native plants, pollinator gardening, land conservation, and clean water initiatives. Member of the original Mashpee Community Garden Advisory Committee from 2018 to 2020. Participant in the Mashpee Land Stewardship program, and member of the Mashpee Pond Coalition and Mashpee Clean Waters. Former board member of the Kiwanis Clubs of Central Cape Cod and of Lower Cape Cod.

Vice President | Mike Richardson | Member of the Mashpee Planning Board. Former member of the Finance Committee and two-term member of the Mashpee Select Board starting in 2009. Advocated for opiate treatment, single-stream recycling, and environmental issues during his time on the Select Board. Past President of the Mashpee Environmental Coalition.
Executive Director of the Peninsula Council in New Seabury, and member of the Editorial Board of the Peninsula Reporter. Mashpee Kiwanis Club member. |
Treasurer | Phyllis D’Eramo | Resident of Mashpee since 1995. Career in accounting, which included Controller positions at New Seabury for seven years and the Ridge Club for six years.
During the early years of the Mashpee Environmental Coalition, assisted its founding leaders in their efforts to obtain nonprofit status. |
Clerk | Virginia Scharfenberg | Co-owner of an environmental consulting, landscaping design and restoration company in Mashpee. Advocate for the Cape Cod environment since moving to Mashpee in 1998.
Longtime leader in support of community gardens in the Boston area. Former Committee Chair of the town-appointed Mashpee Community Garden Advisory Committee, Mashpee Public Library Trustee, and member of Sustainable Practices. Submitter of two Citizen’s Petitions in Mashpee – municipal ban of single-use plastic beverage containers and commercial ban on the sale of non-carbonated, unflavored drinking water in single-use plastic water bottles of less than one gallon. Past President of the Mashpee Environmental Coalition. |
Director | Tom Fudala | Original Town Planner for the Town of Mashpee, serving in that position from 1984 to 2018. While Town Planner, helped to preserve large, important tracts of conservation land within the town; and was instrumental in the creation of the Mashpee National Wildlife Refuge.
Currently serves on the Board of the Friends of the Mashpee National Wildlife Refuge, and on the Mashpee Water District Board of Commissioners. Former Chair of the Mashpee Sewer Commission. |
Director | Arden Russell | Year-round resident since 1990. For 25 years, worked in the Cape Cod affordable housing field at both the county and municipal levels. Now retired, currently focusing on creating a thriving, resilient and equitable Mashpee through advocacy and volunteering.
